Describes the physical characteristics of the village Banoi; the methods of research for the study; and Thai village organization characterized by absence of binding mutual rights and obligations. Deals with family and kinship; mon-kin based interpersonal relations; economic patterns of land-owners and non-owners; village religion; and relationship of the village to the nation, citing government road and dam construction and health programs. Considers changes in means for obtaining traditional goals and disillusionment with traditional goals.
