The major purpose of this study was to analyze the content of Thai books on politics published from October 14, 1973 to January 26, 1975. Methods and Procedures: The research was conducted by reading a group of ninety-four books divided according to the publishers and authors. A content analysis table was constructed which consisted of four main categories of political ideologies, namely, democracy, fascism, socialism and communism, and of forty-one sub-categories. The collected data were thereafter analyzed on mean and percentage basis. Conclusions: 1. Of thirty-nine books published by students, twenty-nine (73.36%) emphasized communism, and ten (25.64%) democracy. Of fifty-five books published by non-students, thirty-one (56.37%) emphasized democracy, and twenty-four (43.63%) communism. 2. Of thirty-nine books published by students, ten were written by scholars who concentrated on government by consent (mean=11.4), freedom (mean=10.2) and equality (mean=6.9). Seventeen books written by non-scholars emphasized imperialism (mean=4.71), Mao’s theory of revolution (mean=4.41) and the theory of class struggle (mean=4.05). Twelve translated books emphasized Mao’s theory of revolution (mean=8.67), imperialism (mean=5.87) and the theory of class struggle (mean=4.67). 3. Of fifty-five books published by non-students, thirty-one were written by scholars dealing with freedom (mean=8.42), government by consent (mean=5.29) and equality (mean=3.61). Nineteen books written by non-scholars emphasized imperialism (mean=3.89), common ownership (mean=3.47) and Mao’s theory of revolution (mean=2.67). Five translated books principally discussed Lenin’s theory of revolution (mean=6.0), the withering away of the state (mean=5.8) and Mao’s theory of revolution (mean=5.0). 4. A comparison of book content as categorized by types of authors showed that books written by scholars mostly discussed democracy, while those by non-scholars, as well as translated ones, mainly concentrated on communism. 5. Concerning writing styles and objectives, of the total of ninety-four books, forty-one (43.62%) aimed at publicizing communism, analyzing and discussing social systems from Marx’s theory of historical materialism. Twenty-seven books (28.72%) were written to publicize democracy as well as to analyze Thai political problems. Fourteen books (14.89%) objectively talked about different political theories. Six books (6.38%) were in favor of publicizing socialism whereas another six (6.38%) were anti-communist.
