The objectives of this thesis are to study the development of white skin preference in Thai society and study the discursive practice at different period of time. The main theory of the study is Discourse of Michel Foucault which also talks about the relationship and practice of power and knowledge which affect people thoughts and perspectives about things. The data is collected by document and in-depth interview of 28 people who engage in "white skin preference'' phenomenal. The study is concluded that: white skin preference in Thai society can be divided into 3 ages. The first age is two-tone skin color with smooth texture or yellow as gold-moon skin color. At this age, skin discourse is produced by royal. The second age is white-yellow skin tone color with the combination of Western skin tone influence. At this age skin discourse is produced by royal at first and then the government after political revolution 1932. The third age (present time), is white-pink skin tone or white and shiny like Korean skin. At this age, white skin discourse resulted from the reproduction of media and some group of individual. The commercial advertisement divide and exclude dark skin people as the group of "Marginal one", this process creates stronger skin bias in Thai society until it affects some group of people to "craft" their bodies by consuming whitening drink/pills and whitening shot. This behavior can be called "white skin obsession". Some women in Thailand at the present time are willing to craft their bodies by changing their skin color in order to create physical capital and in return, gain power which can create economic and social capital back to them through having white or whiter skin
