This thesis aims to study the establishment of the Dhammayuttika Nikaya Sect by Vajiranãna Bhikkhu related to the problem of Sanghabheda (schism) by using the Tipitaka of the Theravada Buddhism as a criterion. The research has found that Vajiranãna Bhikkhu did not declare his separation from religious ceremonies of the assembly of monks in Mahathat Temple in the way that, during the time of the Lord Buddha, Devadatta Bhikkhu declared his separation from the assembly of monks which was chaired and ruled by the Lord Buddha.Such declaration was used as a criterion to judge whether there was an intention to cause Sanghabheda (schism).Vajiranãna Bhikkhu did not absolutely isolate himself from Mahathat Temple because he still had his disciples and servants take care of his residence on the temple grounds. The members of the royal family who were ordained as Buddhist monks during that time looked after the residence for him. From time to time, he came to reside at Mahathat Temple. This indicates that Vajiranãna Bhikkhu did not separate himself from his former Sangha group. When he moved to reside at Samorai Temple, it can be explained that he lived outside the sacred boundaries of Mahathat Temple where the monks of that temple performed their religious ceremonies. Therefore, when performing religious ceremonies, he had to do so within the sacred boundaries of Samorai Temple, where he had taken permanent residency. This can be considered as a normal practice. Moreover, during the initial period of the establishment of the Dhammayuttika Nikaya Sect, monks of both the Dhammayuttika Nikaya Sect and Maha Nikaya Sect were able to take part in religious ceremonies together. They were neutral in that they were neither the Dhammayuttika Nikaya Sect, nor the Maha Nikaya Sect.More restricted rules that prevented monks of these two sects to perform religious ceremonies together started after the founder of the Dhammayuttika Nikaya Sect had ascended the throne to become King Rama IV.However, the King explained that members of the two sects were in the spirit of unity. This can be concluded that the establishment of the Dhammayuttika Nikaya Sect by Vajiranãna Bhikkhu did not cause disagreement among Buddhist monks, or is considered as Sanghabheda (schism), which is deemed as The Anantariyakarma in Buddhism.
