This thesis aims at รณdying the opinion of “ Working Women” in Thai society during 1957 - 1973. Due to the National Development Plans which were implemented in this period, there were opportunities for educated, middle-class women to enter various occupations. The study reveals that apart from occupations that have been favored by women in earlier days e.g. teachers and nurses, women in the period of 1957-1973 have entered new occupations such as secretaries , accountants and bankers, all off which had increased in demand in accordance with a high expansion of private sectors. During that period, women had a positive opinion toward their occupations, which enabled them to gain additional income for their families and also for their personal expenses. Moreover, work expanded their world view and their way of life outside the household. Most of educated, middle-class women in this period s till carried on their occupations after marriage. However, as the notion of efficient wives and mothers remained powerful, those “working women” took on heavier burdens, that is, their public jobs and their household tasks.
