The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to study the effect of the preparatory information and visitation facilitation program on anxiety among family members of patients in a critical care unit, Inburi Hospital, Singburi Province. The sample consisted of 40 patient's family members, and were selected into an experimental group and a control group. The two groups were similar in sex, age of family member and severity of illness (APACHE SCORE) of the patient. The experimental group received a preparatory information and visitation facilitation program, while the control group received a routine nursing care. The research instruments were preparatory information and visitation facilitation program developed based on preparatory information concept (Leventhal and Johnson, 1983), visitation facilitation concept (Daly, 1999), and family needs in critical care (Leske, 2002). Instruments used were a demographic data form and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory From Y-1 (STAI Form Y-1).The instruments were tested for the content validity by 5 experts. The reliability of the STAI Form Y-1 were. 90. The data were analyzed by using Mean, Standard Deviation, and t-test statistic. Results were as follows: 1. The anxiety of patient's family members receiving the preparatory information and visitation facilitation program at posttest was significantly lower than that of pretest at the .05 level. 2. The anxiety of patient's family members receiving the preparatory information and visitation facilitation program were significantly lower than those who received a routine nursing care at the .05 level.
