This thesis is an analytical study of Rachathirat by Chao Phraya Phra Khlang (Hon). It aims to compare the manuscript with the printed version in order to search the background, form and the change of form from the manuscript to the printed version, and to evaluate the two texts. It is found that Chao Phraya Phra Khlang (Hon) and others translated and composed the manuscript from at least two Mon historical documents which are Razadarit Ayedawpon and Nidãna Dhammaceti. The manuscript is a Mon chronicle between 19-21 B.C., emphasizing more details on King Rachathinat and less on King Dhammaceti and King Fah Rua. The printed version has been revised from the manuscript with some literary characteristics by adapting some details which makes characters clearer and adding more comparisons to some parts of the content. Therefore, the printed version can be considered a combination of both a chronicle and a literary work. The value of each text varies according to its nature. Further studies suggested are the studies of literary style, characters and philosophies of the work.
