This thesis is an attempt to study Lakhon Nok by King Rama II by the literary criticism approach. The references in this research are based on materials both in Thai and English, and include interviews from some experts in this field. The thesis is divided into five chapters. In Chapter 1, the introduction, the writer points out the main problems, the purpose, the scope, the procedure in conducting, and the advantages of the 'research. Chapter 2 discusses the thenes of Lakhon Nok written. by King Rama II, the theme of each of the plays, and the values of the 'themes. Chapter 8 reveals the symbols in King Rama II's Lakhon Nok, and discusses the values of such symbols. Chapter 4 discusses, by way of their construction, the similes and metaphors, points out the images, and analyzes the values of similes and metaphors in those works. Chapter 5 concerns conclusion and suggestions. The writer believes that the themes, symbols, and the similes and metaphors are all wonderful tools that help King Rama II's Lakhon Wok to be one of the masterpieces of literature. At the end of the thesis the writer suggests that there should be further studies from other aspects, such as, the aspects of dramatic literature, comparative literature, folklores, Thai idioms, figures of speech construction, etc. The writer strongly believes that further studies in these areas will render great benefits to the study of Thai literature.
