“Sick Man of East Asia” (東亞病夫; Dōngyà bìngfū), a Western discourse, has long affected on modern Chinese identity since the 19th century and still has been impacting in the construction of modern Chinese identity. This event will draw the whole picture of the complicated role that the Western discourse plays in modern Chinese identity construction together with the mixed feeling of modern Chinese towards western culture.
