Child Rights Situation Analysis Within the ASEAN Region
Analyzes the current situation of children in ASEAN member countries, including Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Describes ASEAN standards and mechanisms for the promotion and protection of the rights of the child. Explains four principles of the Convention of the Right of the Child (CRC): non-discrimination, best-interest of the child, survival and development, and children’s participation. Considers legal framework and policies on child rights in ASEAN and the roles and potential of different stakeholders in contributing to ensuring the rights of the child. Examines specific issues concerning the clusters of substantive rights, including civil rights and freedoms, basic education, health and welfare, special protection measures, and family environment and alternative care.
