The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of positive illusions on relationship satisfaction of dating couples. Three hundred dating couples completed a serie of questionnaires: perceptions of themselves, perceptions of their ideal partners, perceptions of their partner, and perceptions of the typical partner, a measure of self-esteem, and a measure of relationship satisfaction. Pearson correlation, paired-sample t test, and LISRELwere used to analyze data. Results are as follows: 1. Perception of partner positively correlates with partner’s self perceptions. 2. Male and female perceive their partners in a more positive light than their partners perceive themselves. 3. Female’s perception of partner, male's perception of partner, and male's self perception have direct effects on female’s relationship satisfaction (p < .05), whereas female's self perception, female's idealization, and male's idealization have indirect effects (p < .05). 4. Male's perception of partner, female's perception of partner, and male's idealization have direct effects on male's relationship satisfaction (p < .05), whereas male's self perception, male's idealization, and female's idealization have indirect effect (p < .05)
