ธนบุรี เป็นเมืองที่มีประวัติความเป็นมายาวนาน จากลักษณะรูปแบบการตั้งถิ่นฐานจากเดิม คลองและแม่น้ำเป็นจุดกำเนิดของชุมชนต่างๆ ซึ่งอำนวยประโยชน์ต่อชุนชนทั้งความเป็นอยู่ สภาพวิถีชีวิต ที่อยู่อาศัย อาชีพ และขนบธรรมเนียมประเพณี ทั้งหมดเกี่ยวข้องผูกพันกับสายน้ำ รูปแบบดังกล่าวนั้นเป็นการดำรงชีวิตของชุมชนพึ่งน้ำ จนในปัจจุบันเมื่อเกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลงการพัฒนาประเทศ การพัฒนาถูกนำไปสู่การดำรงชีวิตของเมืองสมัยใหม่แบบ เมืองพึ่งบก ที่อยู่กับถนน อันเป็นรูปแบบของการตั้งถิ่นฐานจากพื้นฐานที่แตกต่างกัน การศึกษาวิจัยมีวัตถุประสงค์ศึกษาถึงลักษณะรูปแบบการตั้งถิ่นฐาน ที่เปลี่ยนแปลงของชุมชนที่เคยพึ่งน้ำ เป็นเมืองสมัยใหม่แบบเมืองพึ่งบก โดยแสดงให้เห็นถึงรูปแบบต่างๆ ของการเปลี่ยนแปลง จากนั้นจึงศึกษาเพื่อให้ได้ทราบถึงข้อดีและข้อเสีย ของรูปแบบการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เกิดขึ้น โดยขั้นตอนการศึกษาแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ช่วง ในช่วงแรกจะศึกษาถึง เหตุแห่งการเปลี่ยนแปลงลักษณะทางกายภาพ ออกเป็น 11 ช่วงยุคที่ตามสาเหตุการเปลี่ยนแปลงครั้งสำคัญในพื้นที่ศึกษา ซึ่งเมื่อได้ทราบถึงลักษณะและรูปแบบการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เป็นมาแล้ว จากนั้นจึงศึกษาต่อถึง ผลของการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เกิดขึ้น จากการเข้ามาของปัจจัยการดำรงชีวิตแบบเมืองบก ผ่านตัวอย่างชุมชนในพื้นที่ศึกษาทั้ง 11 แห่ง ผลจากการศึกษาทำให้ได้ทราบถึง ปัจจัยการเปลี่ยนแปลงจากชุมชนพึ่งน้ำสู่เมืองพึ่งบก โดยเกิดจาก 1. บทบาทที่เป็นมาของพื้นที่ทั้งจากการเชื่อมโยงในระดับที่แตกต่างกัน 2. นโยบายและค่านิยมในแต่ละช่วงยุค 3. ปัจจัยทางกายภาพที่เปลี่ยนแปลงไปตามธรรมชาติ และโดยฝีมือคน ทั้งหมดต่างผูกผันและเกี่ยวเนื่องกันมาโดยตลอด ทั้งในช่วงยุคเดียวกันและระหว่างช่วงยุค เป็นกระบวนการที่ส่งผลต่อเนื่องมาจนถึงในปัจจุบัน และได้ทราบถึงผลของปัจจัย การเปลี่ยนแปลงที่สัมพันธ์กับบทบาทเดิมของพื้นที่ และสภาพทางกายภาพที่เปลี่ยนไป ทำให้ชี้แจ้งได้ถึงข้อดีและข้อเสีย ของแต่ละปัจจัยการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่เกิดขึ้น ซึ่งจากทั้งเหตุและผลของการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่ได้ทราบมานั้น ถือเป็นองค์ความรู้สำคัญที่เป็นแนวทางต่อไป ในการพัฒนาเมืองที่มีพื้นฐานเช่นเดียวกัน และได้สร้างทางเลือกในการพัฒนา เพื่อการรับมือต่อปัญหาที่จะเกิดขึ้นจากการพัฒนาเมือง ที่แตกต่างจากพื้นฐานเดิมของพื้นที่ อันเป็นข้อเท็จจริงในปัจจุบันและอนาคตที่เกิดขึ้นโดยทั่วไป
Thonburi city area with its long history in the kingdom of Thailand originated its settlement pattern on canal and river from which early settled communities along canals or rivers could benefit. Way of life, housing, professions, customs and traditions: all of which are deeply associated with canals or rivers. Such settlement pattern is called water-based community. Not until now, this area, with present situation of modern city known as land-based city, rely mostly on land transportation system, especially the road network which causes a different type of settlement from the water one This study is to find the settlement patterns that evolved from water based community to land based city. This evolution can be classified into 11 periods that have major changes in physical development. Then, each changed pattern can be scrutinized further to discover the advantages and disadvantages resulting from altering the way of life to land based city by using 11 communities as case study in Thonburi city area The results from the study found that the factors in transforming water-based to land-based are caused by the spatial role in different levels of linkages, by policies and norms in each period, and by physical factors that change manually or naturally. Each factors are associated in a certain way within the same periods or in the between. This is an ongoing process that can lead to understand the factors of changes that are related to spatial role and physical alteration. Consequently, the pros and cons for each factor can be identified For the final proposal, the causes and effects of these changes can be adapted to the city of the same pattern and this knowledge can produce various choices to choosing from in developing the cities that are of similar situations.
