This project aims to research the living environment in condominiums in the Bangkok Metropolitan area. The study examines the various economic, social, public utility, and environmental prolems that condominium residents encounter, and explores how these problems arise. The project compares and analyses the problems among residents of low, medium, and high-priced condominiums in the Prakanong area. The first major problem, stemming from social and economic factors, is difficulty in communting to and from work. This has arisen because of severe traffic congestion, and insufficient public transportation which results in long waiting times and over-crowded buses, and includes the lack of buses on certain routes, and accidents. The research further discloses a second issue - the lack of active participation by condominium residents. The majors causes are time constraints, no interest in participation and no association with the neighborhood. Some conflicts between residents occur, such as annoyance caused by neighors, unfriendly neighbors, and guests of neighbors. Apart from problems that originate from social and economic factors, public utilities and the environment prove also to pose problems for comdominium residents. The first major problem is utilization of common areas such as narrow and dirty passages and stairs and insufficient car parking. The second problem is poor waste management caused by irregular waste collection, insufficient waste containers, and expensive service fees. The third major problem is caused by unduitable materials being used in condominium construction and results in such problems as low quality paints, building cracks, and substandard materials.
