A Brief Economic History of Land Rights in Thailand: From the Sukhothai Period to the End of King Chulalongkorn’s Reign
Reassesses the nature and security of land rights in Siam from the Sukhothai period to the end of King Chulalongkorn’s reign(1868-1910). Describes history of both De Jure and De Facto land rights in Siam. Evaluates land rights security before 1901 under the traditional land rights system using evidence from primary source documents, including the land deed collection and various court cases involving land disputes, namely women and foreigners. Provides impacts of Siam’s nineteenth and early twentieth century property rights regimes on agricultural and economic development.
