Feasting in Southeast Asia

1    Studies Southeast Asian feasts in terms of ethnography, social, political, economic aspects as well as a driver for cultural change. Compares traditional and ethnic feasts in Thailand, Lao PDR, Vietnam, and Indonesia. Argues that human’s marriage, reproduction, self-defense against threats and attacks, as well as interests protection in village politics are driven by feasting networks. Explains the fundamental of feasts, an overview of hill tribes’ cultures, Akha’s feasts, tribal feasting in Vietnam, Laotian tribal feast, Torajan and Sumban feasting complex.
