Making Inroads: Chinese Infrastructure Investment in ASEAN and Beyond

Gives public awareness of China’s infrastructure development as well as its ‘One Belt One Road’ initiative in terms of their impacts on local communities, environment, social standards, and governance systems. Discusses strategies to respond to these development. Depicts China’s roles in global infrastructure financing, the roles of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), and the ‘One Belt One Road’ projects in ASEAN. Explicates Chinese Investment Funds in ASEAN region in coherent with social standards, covering The Silk Road Fund, China-ASEAN Investment Cooperation Fund, China Development Bank, and Export-Import Bank of China. Analyzes implications of those infrastructure financing, including risks and opportunities of those financial access, social and environmental standards, response of other nations and institutions, and China’s role in ASEAN.
