Everything under the Heavens: How the Past Helps Shape China's Push for Global Power

Investigates Chinese governmental and imperialist ideology from historic to present time that has influenced China’s role in regional and global diplomacy. Focuses on China’s movements in exercising its national power and expansionism at regional and global level, especially roles of President Xi Jinping. Exhibits China’s actions and responses toward American power in Sino-Japanese War, South China Sea, Viet Nam, the Philippines, and Southeast Asia. Reflects Chinese perceptions for themselves and their country through calling names, such as sons of heaven standing for Chinese emperors, ‘Zhong Guo’ or China means the central country, and barbarians as common term for non-Chinese people.
