- (The
International Country
Risk Guide)
ICRG Online or the online version of the International Country Risk
Guide, produced by the PRS Group, provide financial,
political and
economic risk
ratings for 140
countries every month. It comprises 22 variables in three subcategories
of risk: political, financial, and economic. A separate index is
created for each of the subcategories. The Political Risk index is
based on 100 points, Financial Risk on 50 points, and Economic Risk on
50 points. The total points from the three indices are divided by two
to produce the weights for inclusion in the composite country risk
score. The composite scores, ranging from zero to 100, are then broken
into categories from Very Low Risk (80 to 100 points) to Very High
Risk (zero to 49.5 points). Country analyses in ICRG include
descriptive assessments and economic data. ICRG provides ratings for
140 countries on a monthly basis. Historical data back to January 1984 can be purchased. (Note:

Evidence-based Information
- Influenza
Evidence-based Information, compiled by the EBSCO Publishing Medical
and Nursing editors of DynaMed,
Nursing
Reference Center (NRC), and Patient Education Reference Center
(PERC), is a key influenza information from these resources freely available to health
care providers worldwide. This site includes more than 50 evidence-based topics
including patient education information in 17
languages. The information provided For Clinicians (from
DynaMed) and For Nurses
(from NRC) consolidates the evidence from hundreds of medical and
nursing journals and systematic evidence review databases. Each
publication is reviewed cover-to-cover, and each article is evaluated
for clinical relevance and scientific validity. The new
evidence
is then integrated with existing content, and conclusions are changed
as appropriate representing a synthesis of the available evidence and
ensuring that health care providers stay current with recommendations
for monitoring, diagnosing, and treating patients with flu-like
illnesses. The For
Patients section (from PERC) provides
non-medical professionals with current, easy to understand articles
about Pandemic H1N1 and Seasonal Flu. The information may
also be
used by physicians and nurses as patient handouts.

Side Effects of Drugs Annual
- The
Side Effects of Drugs Annual or SEDA (printed
ISSN: 0378-6080) was first published in 1977. It has been continually
published by Elsevier Science since then, as a yearly update to the
standard encyclopaedia Meyler's
Side Effects of Drugs.
Each new Annual provides a reliable and critical yearly survey of new
data and trends in the area of Adverse Drug Reactions and Interactions.
An international team of specialists has contributed to the Annuals by
selecting from each year's writing all that is new and informative, by
critically interpreting it, and by pointing to whatever is misleading.
The use of the book is enhanced by separate indexes, allowing the
reader to enter the text via the drug name, adverse effect, or drug
interaction. Special features of the Annuals are: the Side Effects of
Drugs Essay, usually written by a guest author, and the special
reviews: short articles within the different chapters, that give extra
attention to topics of current interest for clinicians, pharmacists,
prescribers, and medical investigators. (Note: Free trial access to

Digital Library of Engineering and Computer Science
- Synthesis
Digital Library of Engineering and Computer Science from Morgan
&
Claypool Publishers, launched in October 2005 with an initial selection
of series in
engineering and computer science. The basic collection is a 50-100 page
Lecture; a self-contained e-book
that synthesizes an important research or development topic, authored
by an expert contributor to the field. The library and its lectures are
organized by topic series.
The content presents various research or development topics in four
subject collections: Computational Electromagnetics & Antennas,
Signal Processing, Digital Circuits & General Electrical
Engineering, and Biomedical Engineering. New series and lectures will
be added continuously and existing lectures will be revised as needed.
The Synthesis platform provides the user with access to content in PDF
with live links to references and sophisticated search and
personalization functions. It incorporates extensive reference linking
both internally and externally. External linking using CrossRef and OpenURL standards
provides instant access to linked sources from subscribed
publishers. Many Lectures will include enhancements such as animations,
code, and audio. Individual Sythesis Lectures are available for
purchase in print or via downloadable Adobe PDF. (Note: Morgan
&
Claypool provided free access to Synthesis with all series on trial
until July 31, 2007.)

- UpToDate
(Service note)
- UpToDate,
started in 1989 by Dr. Burton D. Rose along with Dr. Joseph
Rush, is now a comprehensive evidence-based
clinical information resource, in most internal medicine subspecialties
as well as adult primary care, family medicine, ob-gyn, and pediatrics.
It is designed to get clinicians the concise, practical answers they
need when they need them the most - at the point-of-care. The topics
are written by more than 3,300 expert clinicians. The physician editors
and authors review and update the content on a continuous basis and a
new, peer-reviewed version is issued every four
months. There are no
page numbers to cite.
Since UpToDate is released every four months, each topic will appear in
each release, so the publication year for any topic should be the current
year. UpToDate is currently part of the clinical practice at many
prominent hospitals including: Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth
Israel Deaconess Hospital, New York Presbyterian Hospital, Johns
Hopkins Hospital, University of Pennsylvania, University of Chicago
Hospitals, and many more. UpToDate is an official educational program
of, or is offered in cooperation with major medical societies and
associations in the U.S. These include: the American Academy of
Pediatrics, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists,
the American College of Rheumatology, the American Gastroenterological
Association, the American Society of Nephrology, the American Thoracic
Society, the Endocrine Society, the Society of General Internal
Medicine, and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. (Note: This
subscription is licensed to King
Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital with unlimited access on the CUNet since 2007.)

WorldCat (WorldCat Beta)
- WorldCat
on FirstSearch provides access to the world's largest library
catalogs from around the world. Created in 1971, WorldCat catalogs the
content of more than 50,000 libraries in 90-plus countries. Cataloged
by OCLC member libraries and covered before 1000
BC
to present, the database is updated daily contains over 62 million
records describing books, journals (article abstracts and their full text),
research materials, maps, musical scores, manuscripts, digital versions
of rare items, etc., representing 400 languages. Often, these catalogs
are freely available
on the Internet as part of the "Open
WorldCat" program lauched in 2003, making abbreviated
records from a subset
of WorldCat available to partner Web sites such as Yahoo!, Google and
various booksellers, to increase the accessibility of its member
libraries’ collections. On the general search sites, a user can limit
their search to Open WorldCat records by adding the phrase "find in a library"
(with quotes included) to their search string. In 2004, this
functionality became a permanent feature of WorldCat, and the entire
database was made available for search-engine harvesting. Starting in
2005, it is possible to make direct links to Open WorldCat records,
allowing immediate access to all libraries holding a given book. Since
August 2006, it is possible to search WorldCat directly through a
central Web page or through a downloadable search box. Anyone can
download the WorldCat search box and add it to a blog or Web site through a
WorldCat Affiliate program.
